Position Summary:
Stream Team Captains lead volunteers on stream restoration
and enhancement project event days. They provide leadership, organization
and supervision to volunteers for Saturday morning event days on projects

goals.
Advanced Stream Team Captain training will be offered to anyone who has completed the first Stream Team Captain training, and will focus on more in-depth education of riparian restoration. The training will feature guest speakers and specialists in stream and wetland restoration processes, bioengineering, and plant identification. To register, contact Rhyan, 503-844-9571 or rhyan@solv.org.

Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Do I have to attend all sessions of my
selected training?
Yes. Each training session covers different information that is crucial in preparing you to lead a volunteer event.
2. Will I have to lead an event by myself?
Don’t worry. Before you lead an event we highly recommend that you attend an event that is being led by someone experienced. Team Up staff will provide you with a schedule of these events. After this, most events you lead will be a partnership with another Stream Team Captain. If the work party for a particular event is small enough, however, it is possible you will be asked to lead an event on your own.
3. How long are the events and how many will I be asked to lead?
The events are on Saturdays in the fall, winter and spring. They go from 9am-12pm, but you will need to get there early and possibly stay to wrap things up after volunteers leave. We ask that you donate 12 hours of service after the training (this includes your first event where you simply observe), which amounts to about 3-4 events a year. You are always welcome to volunteer for additional work days!
4. What happens if someone
gets hurt?
We will go over what to do in an emergency during the training. Team Up staff will always be available by cell phone if you have a question during the event day.
5. What kind of continued
support will SOLV provide?
You are welcome to attend the Stream Team Captain training as often as you like to refresh your knowledge. Advanced Stream Team Captain trainings will be offered periodically, which will provide further education by local experts about the restoration process. Also, additional educational and networking opportunities, such as tours or presentations that cover various environmental topics, will be offered throughout the year. In addition, SOLV offers a Volunteer Action Training that might interest you should you decide to tackle a cleanup or restoration project of your own. This is a free training on how to recruit volunteers and organize a project that enhances your community. At our end of the year celebration, you will have a chance to get together and talk about your successes and share stories with other Stream Team Captains.
Any other questions? Feel free to call Rhyan or Steve at 503-844-9571, or write at rhyan@solv.org or steve@solv.org.
